Thank you for your interest in St. Mary's School. Let me take a moment to
describe to you who we are. St. Mary’s Catholic School is a parochial elementary
school educating children from Early Childhood (Pre-K) to 8th grade
since 1953. Here we educate the whole child; academically, spiritually, and
emotionally. It is our ability to address all three aspects that enables our
students to excel intellectually and thrive spiritually, developing into
compassionate, lifelong learners.
St. Mary’s was founded by the Sisters of Mercy over 55 years ago and true to their mission, they created a school environment keenly aware of the need to care for others. Staying true to that idea, we give our students opportunities to participate in community activities with the hope that, through these experiences, they will come to understand the role they will play as adults in God’s community.
Our rigorous academic program sets the bar higher than public schools. Our kindergarten curriculum offers an accelerated reading program and our second grade students learn cursive handwriting. A passing grade for our Middle school students is 75% or higher in all Core Academic Subjects including foreign language and technology. In 2008, 100% of our 4th, 6th, and 8th graders scored a 3 or 4 (meeting or exceeding standards) on the New York State Mathematics Assessments. Religious instruction is part of our curriculum at all grade levels K-8. Integrating Gospel values provides a foundation of faith your child will rely on for years to come.
St. Mary’s is one of the few schools in this area offering a K-8 program, allowing your child the benefit of consistency in their environment with no transitions from building to building. It is this consistency that allows us to get to know your child well, understanding them not only as a student but as a person.
We hope you enjoy your time here and we look forward to having you and your child become part of our family at St. Mary’s School.
With warm regards,
Mrs. Mary Rushkoski
